Portfolio Lead – Engineering Projects

Alchemy Recruitment is currently partnered with a world-leading mining organisation seeking experienced Portfolio Leads from mechanical, electrical, structural or civil backgrounds for a contract position based in the Mackay Coal Fields.
What to expect:
Reporting to the Project Superintendent, you’ll leverage your leadership and technical expertise to plan, manage, and execute assigned brownfield infrastructure works on site for a major sustaining capital projects portfolio.
Working within an established site-based engineering team, leading diverse projects across multiple disciplines.
The Role
You will lead a portfolio of small to medium capital projects (valued between $35M–$80M annually), covering structural, mechanical, electrical, processing, civil, and water works. You will be responsible for the safe, efficient, and compliant delivery of this portfolio across the full project lifecycle.
This is a site-based role on a 5:2 roster, offered on FIFO from Brisbane or DIDO from the local region. Flexible work options may be considered.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the delivery of the capital projects portfolio from initiation to close-out
- Provide leadership to a team of project professionals
- Manage governance, risk, reporting, and stakeholder engagement
- Oversee compliance with internal frameworks and external standards
- Drive continuous improvement and capital efficiency initiatives
- Foster a positive and collaborative project culture
Competency & Qualifications
- 5 + years in managing a portfolio of projects with varying scope and complexity, ideally within mining environments
- Engineering degree or equivalent experience
- Strong leadership experience with teams of 7+ direct reports
- Experience in site-based execution and shutdown/turnaround planning
- Solid understanding of full project lifecycle delivery
- Project management and PMO background
- Strong stakeholder management and communication skills
- High attention to safety, quality, and compliance
- Competency in project reporting, documentation, and Microsoft Office Suite
