Overview

An opportunity has become available for an experienced Principal Studies (Study Lead) professional to support a major brownfield capital studies portfolio within the mining sector.

This role will lead early-stage studies focused on processing improvement, asset integrity, infrastructure strategy, and capital optimisation across large-scale operational assets.

Working within an owner’s side projects environment, you will engage closely with operations, engineering, maintenance, studies, and project delivery teams to progress projects through identification and development phases.

Key Responsibilities

✅ Lead identification and optioneering studies across brownfield capital projects
✅ Drive business case development, investment framing, and study execution activities
✅ Manage study scope, cost, schedule, risk, and stakeholder engagement activities
✅ Coordinate multi-disciplinary engineering inputs across SMPEI&C workstreams
✅ Support refurbishment, replacement, and infrastructure strategy assessments
✅ Facilitate value optimisation and investment decision support activities
✅ Prepare study documentation and support governance approval processes
✅ Manage external consultants and engineering service providers
✅ Support project execution planning for future delivery phases

Candidate Requirements

✔ Experience leading mining studies, project development, or brownfield capital projects
✔ Strong exposure to processing plants, bulk materials handling, or heavy industrial infrastructure (ideally CHPP/coal handling)
✔ Experience across FEL, FEED, Concept Study phases etc
✔ Strong commercial, governance, and stakeholder management capability
✔ Ability to lead complex multi-disciplinary studies and stakeholder groups
✔ Experience managing large-scale capital projects and study teams
✔ Tertiary qualifications in Engineering, Project Management, or related discipline
