About the Opportunity

Alchemy Recruitment are partnering with a leading organisation to appoint a Senior Manager, Safety & Systems to support the delivery of a major project in NSW. This is a rare opportunity to shape the safety governance and assurance frameworks for a landmark transport infrastructure initiative from the ground up, this is a 12-month contract reporting directly to the General Manager Safety.

Key Responsibilities
As Senior Manager, Safety & Systems, you will provide enterprise-wide leadership of the organisation’s safety, WHS and assurance frameworks, ensuring compliance with national rail and work health safety legislation across a complex transport environment.

  • Lead enterprise safety strategy, governance forums and regulatory engagement
  • Own and continuously improve the SMS/WHSMS, embedding Safety in Design and systems-engineering-based assurance
  • Direct the integrated safety assurance program, including hazard logs, risk registers and change-impact assessments
  • Oversee notifiable occurrence management, serious incident investigations and emergency preparedness
  • Champion worker health, wellbeing and psychosocial risk management
  • Build safety leadership capability and a strong, transparent safety culture across the organisation
  • Establish safety performance indicators and risk intelligence reporting for Executive and governance committees
  • Lead and develop a multidisciplinary safety and assurance team, managing related budgets and specialist contracts

  
Skills and Experience
You’re an experienced safety and assurance leader with a track record in major infrastructure, transport or complex systems environments, including direct regulatory engagement.

  • Strong knowledge of national safety legislation, safety management systems and incident investigation practices
  • Demonstrated expertise assessing safety artefacts, assurance evidence and operational readiness documentation for major transport systems
  • Experience in systems engineering and Safety in design, hazard analysis, interface management and integration assurance
  • High-level communication and influencing skills, able to shape outcomes with Executives, government stakeholders, contractors and technical specialists
  • The judgement and resilience to lead safety-critical decision-making in a high-visibility, high-pressure program environment
  • A relevant degree or equivalent industry experience is required.
