APS5 Investigations Officers

Alchemy Recruitment is partnering with a federal government client to support them in recruiting for 2 x APS5 Investigations Officers, based in Canberra or Melbourne.

About the Role
Our client’s regulatory division is expanding to administer the most significant reforms to Australia’s electoral funding and disclosure laws in 40 years. Joining the Disclosure and Compliance team, you’ll work under general supervision to support investigations into potential anti-avoidance schemes, using documents, financial information and data to identify risk and inform decision making.

This is a full-time, 12-month fixed-term APS engagement starting 2 November 2026, with possible extension to 18 months. The role is office based in Canberra or Melbourne.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Gather, analyse and document information to support investigations into potential anti-avoidance schemes.
  • Review documents and financial information to identify gaps or issues and provide well-considered advice.
  • Use data and intelligence tools to identify high-risk behaviours, entities and schemes.
  • Contribute to the design of targeted compliance strategies.
  • Prepare clear, accurate briefing materials, reports and correspondence for decision makers.

About You

  • You’ll be successful in this role if you have:
  • Experience in investigations, compliance or other structured, evidence-based work.
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to interpret moderately complex information.
  • Clear, accurate written communication.
  • The ability to manage your workload and deliver quality work to tight timeframes.

Highly Regarded

  • Certificate IV in Government Investigations (PSP40416), or willingness to complete it with support.
  • Experience in a regulatory, tax, fraud or financial investigations environment.

Good to Know
Australian citizenship and the ability to obtain a Baseline security clearance are required. Candidates must be politically neutral, so anyone active in political affairs will not be eligible.
