Alchemy Recruitment is partnering with a federal government client to support them in recruiting for an APS6 Senior Investigations Officer, based in Canberra or Melbourne.
About the Role
Our client’s regulatory division is expanding to administer the most significant reforms to Australia’s electoral funding and disclosure laws in 40 years. Joining the Disclosure and Compliance team, you’ll work under limited direction to lead risk-based investigations into potential anti-avoidance schemes, draw insights from data and intelligence, and guide junior staff.
This is a full-time, 12-month fixed-term APS engagement starting 2 November 2026, with possible extension to 18 months. The role is office based in Canberra or Melbourne.

Your Key Responsibilities
- Apply a risk-based approach to investigations into potential anti-avoidance schemes.
- Use data and intelligence tools to identify high-risk behaviours, entities and schemes, and inform compliance strategy.
- Prepare high-quality briefs, reports and correspondence for decision makers.
- Contribute to the development and refinement of policies and procedures.
- Provide leadership, guidance and support to junior staff.
About You
- You’ll be successful in this role if you have:
- Demonstrated experience in regulatory, financial or fraud investigations.
- Well-developed analytical skills and sound judgement.
- High-quality brief and report writing.
- Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
Highly Regarded
- Certificate IV in Government Investigations (PSP40416), or willingness to complete it with support.
- Experience guiding or reviewing the work of others.
Good to Know
- Australian citizenship and the ability to obtain a Baseline security clearance are required. Candidates must be politically neutral, so anyone active in political affairs will not be eligible.
