HR Advisor

About the Opportunity
Alchemy Recruitment Consulting is partnering with a global mining company to source an experienced HR Advisor for a historic copper operation on Tasmania’s West Coast.

After more than a decade in care and maintenance, the site has been approved to restart and is now in the early stages of operations, making this a rare opportunity to help shape the people function from the ground up.

This role will see you working as the sole HR presence on site, reporting to the HR Lead based in Brisbane. With a small team on site and a significant ramp up planned for next year, the role starts hands-on and operational, growing into broader and more in-depth HR work as the operation scales.

This is a residential role on a 5/2 roster, with accommodation provided.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage induction, onboarding and offboarding processes for employees on site
  • Support payroll processes and maintain accurate HR data and employee records
  • Coordinate site recruitment activity
  • Provide practical advice to leaders and employees on day-to-day HR queries and people matters
  • Support the performance management system and case-manage under-performance with Superintendents and Supervisors
  • Assist with workforce planning, annual position budgeting and organisational design as the operation grows
  • Contribute to training and leadership programs, remuneration and rewards, and the rollout of HR systems on site

About You

  • Site-based HR experience is highly regarded, particularly within mining, heavy industry or remote operations
  • Previous experience within a projects environment will be well regarded
  • Confident working as a standalone HR presence on site, with the judgement to work autonomously while reporting into a remote HR Lead
  • Strong employee relations capability and a working knowledge of Australian and Tasmanian employment, workers’ compensation and WHS legislation
  • Well-developed interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build trust quickly with operational leaders and employees
  • Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Office skills, with Pronto and DoneSafe experience advantageous

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Tertiary qualification in HR, Psychology, Business, Law or a related discipline (or equivalent experience)
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience as a generalist HR practitioner
  • Current open C Class Driver’s Licence
  • Full Australian working rights

What’s on Offer

  • Permanent, full-time opportunity with a global mining company
  • Residential role on a 5/2 roster, with accommodation provided
  • Competitive salary package
  • The chance to build the site HR function from the start of operations through ramp up
  • Support from the HR Lead and a broader regional HR team
