Principal Project Engineer – Structural Remediation & Fabrication

Hybrid Perth/Site role | 5/2/4/3 roster | Autonomy with site and Perth-based work | Ongoing contract (12 month initial)

About the Role A major resources organisation is seeking a Principal Project Engineer to lead and support structural remediation and fabrication projects across critical infrastructure. This position is offered on a 5/2/4/3 roster with flexibility to split time between Perth office, site presence, and some WFH options. The role provides strong contract stability with extension opportunities and autonomy to balance project delivery between site execution and office-based planning.

Reporting to the Area Lead, you will be responsible for project leadership across planning, contractor engagement, execution, and QA/QC, ensuring safe and efficient delivery of remediation and upgrade works.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead remediation and fabrication works across steel and concrete assets, including wharf structures and other site infrastructure.
  • Manage projects through full lifecycle: scoping, design review, contractor engagement, execution, and handover.
  • Review contractor methodologies, mobilisation documentation, and compliance against project standards.
  • Undertake QA/QC inspections for steel and concrete works, ensuring compliance with design, safety, and quality standards.
  • Provide leadership to site contractors, ensuring safe mobilisation and delivery.
  • Collaborate with Perth-based engineering, maintenance, and project teams to align execution priorities.
  • Manage project budgets, schedules, reporting, and governance requirements.
  • Drive safety, quality, and continuous improvement initiatives across all project phases.

About You

  • Degree in Mechanical or Structural Engineering (or equivalent).
  • 5 + years’ experience in brownfield project delivery, with a strong focus on fabrication, remediation, and structural works.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage contractors onsite, including review of mobilisation plans and methodologies.
  • Experience conducting QA/QC for steel fabrication and concrete remediation/wharf repairs.
  • Strong knowledge of engineering standards, compliance, and risk management.
  • Proven project management capability, with stakeholder engagement and contractor leadership experience.
  • Proficiency in reporting and Microsoft Office; SAP or similar system experience advantageous.
  • Commitment to high safety and quality standards.
