Project Engineers – Mechanical | Electrical | FIFO Monday to Friday
Brownfield Capital Projects | Metallurgical Processing Environment
Alchemy Recruitment is partnering with a large-scale metallurgical operation seeking experienced Senior Project Engineers to deliver capital and sustaining infrastructure projects within an established brownfield environment.
These roles are execution-focused, supporting complex asset upgrades, shutdown scopes and infrastructure improvement programs.
The Role
Reporting into the capital projects function, you will provide engineering and project delivery support across sustaining and growth capital works, ensuring safe, compliant and commercially aligned execution from concept through to handover.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver capital, sustaining and asset improvement projects in line with the approved capital works program
- Manage projects through scoping, evaluation, design, construction, commissioning and handover
- Develop scopes of work, technical specifications, cost estimates and schedules
- Lead and coordinate multidisciplinary stakeholders including operations, maintenance, contractors and consultants
- Provide technical oversight of engineering designs, ensuring compliance with relevant standards and site requirements
- Review and challenge consultant deliverables to ensure fit-for-purpose, safe and commercially practical outcomes
- Support shutdown planning and execution activities where required
- Monitor project financials, contractor performance and schedule adherence
- Lead Safety in Design processes and contribute to risk assessments and incident investigations
- Ensure alignment with asset management strategies and internal engineering governance frameworks
Experience & Requirements
Core Requirements (Both Disciplines)
- 5+ years’ experience delivering capital projects within mining, heavy industry or metallurgical processing
- Tertiary qualification in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering
- Strong brownfield project delivery experience (design through to commissioning)
- Demonstrated experience managing external consultants and contractors
- Exposure to construction and commissioning environments
- Strong stakeholder engagement and safety leadership capability
- Professional registration (RPEQ / CPEng or working toward) advantageous
Mechanical-Specific Experience
- Experience delivering mechanical asset upgrades within heavy process infrastructure
- Strong understanding of rotating equipment, fixed plant and structural/mechanical interfaces
- Ability to review and validate mechanical design documentation and equipment specifications
- Shutdown and sustaining capital exposure highly regarde
Electrical-Specific Experience (HV/LV)
- Experience delivering LV and HV distribution upgrades within industrial processing environments
- Knowledge of substations, MCCs, switchboards and protection systems
- Exposure to power system modelling and protection coordination
- Understanding of DCS/PLC and industrial control system integration desirable
- Strong working knowledge of relevant Australian Standards and statutory compliance frameworks
