Project Engineering Superintendent (Owner’s Side | Capital Projects)

Overview

Newly created leadership role in QLD metals mining with full ownership to build and lead a projects function from the ground up. Responsible for delivering sustaining and expansion capital across a complex heavy industry environment, with a strong pipeline of infrastructure upgrades.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead delivery of sustaining and expansion capital projects (~$25–30M + ad hoc)
  • Establish and grow a high-performing engineering projects team (~20 personnel)
  • Drive governance, standards, and project delivery frameworks
  • Oversee multi-discipline scope (mechanical, electrical, infrastructure)
  • Manage budgets, forecasting, and 5-year capital planning
  • Partner with Maintenance and Reliability functions for integrated delivery
  • Provide clear leadership, direction, and accountability across the team

Project Scope (Examples)

  • Ventilation systems and upgrades
  • Paste and dewatering infrastructure
  • Pump stations and water management
  • Electrical upgrades and power extensions
  • Life-of-mine infrastructure projects

About You

  • Degree-qualified Engineer (Mechanical, Electrical or similar)
  • Proven experience delivering capital projects in mining or heavy industry
  • Strong communicator with solid process understanding
  • Experience lifting governance, standards, and team capability
  • SAP exposure preferred
  • Leadership style: hands-on, accountable, and outcome-focused

Structure

  • Reports to Maintenance Manager
  • Leads Senior Mechanical & Electrical Engineers, plus broader team
  • Works closely with Asset & Reliability function

Roster & Location

  • Residential role only
  • Fully established mining town with large population
  • 9-day fortnight (9–10 hour days)

Salary & Benefits

  • $200k – $220k package
  • Bonus ~50k (strong historical track record)
